I have seen the picture below taken by countless bloggers and other content creators on instagram so CLEARLY I had to do the same. Let me tell ya something though, no body tells you how challenging it is to get to this spot.
After the Grand Canyon, we drove north to Page, Arizona to a sweet little spot called Horseshoe Bend.
I don’t know what I expected to see when we got there but it most definitely was not a large hill that you have to hike up. We mustered up our courage and decided to walk from the parking lot to the entrance. Before we even got to the entry though, there was an ambulance there taking someone away. SUPER reassuring, let me tell you. The ambulance left by the time we got to this lovely sign. At this point, Jaice and I began questioning what exactly we were getting ourselves into. However, we wanted the picture and had already drove out of the way so we were doing it.
We made it up but not without breaking a sweat! There was a huge storm on its way in so it was very windy up on the edge of the bend. Extreme wind on an edge of a couple thousand foot drop is not the ideal recipe for good pictures and thats why we have the two below and a few more that were too windblown to even post.
I had bought an old Polaroid One Step on Goodwill a few weeks before the trip. Every single one of my pictures over exposed but taking them in a windstorm added a whole to mess to the situation.
The shoe picture is probably one of my favorite pictures I took on this trip but with that, it was easily the most terrifying. I had to basically lay flat, on the edge of the canyon, do a killer ab workout and extend my legs out. Its fine though because I didn’t die and the picture is cool so it was a win!
These last few post and the next few post over the road trip are a bit everywhere. I feel weird when I don’t tell stories with my pictures in post but at the same time, there isn’t much to say when my emphasis is on creativity and not storytelling. So stick with me, there is more to come soon!
